1987 Kinshasa

Nizar Saleh is a photographer, video-artist and music producer moving between Kinshasa and Brussels. He is a member of COLLECTIF FAIRE-PART, an ensemble of Belgian & Congolese filmmakers. After finishing his studies in visual communication and photography at Académie des Beaux-Arts in Kinshasa, Saleh made several short documentaries looking at Kinshasa’s art scene. His fictional and documentary work reflects on the relationship between people and their environment. He is deeply influenced by the colonial and post-colonial stories between Belgium and DR Congo, the people who live there and the many complex relations in between. 

Nizar works as a photographer and filmmaker with the Belgian Museum aan de Stroom (MAS) and AFRICA MUSEUM (Tervuren), creating content around the restitution of African artworks and artefacts and the restitution of human remains in private and public collections in Belgium. He has co-directed 12 award-winning documentaries including Bidon Vil (2018), Faire-Part (2019), In Vele Handen (2020), L'Escale (2022), I Heard They Change Color (2022) and Speech For A Melting Statue (2023).

Nizar is also the co-founder of the production house ‘Kimpavita Films’ and co-producer of the music band KIN'gongolo Kiniata.
